Input Limitations Of The Alpha 400

The Alpha 400 has an MPPT solar charge controller that can handle solar panels rated between 13-24V. Its max input is 6.2A.

Most 12V 100W solar panel outputs about 18V, so that means that the Alpha 400 has a max input of almost 112W. I haven’t tested this so take these numbers with a grain of salt.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Will It Take To Charge The Battery With Solar Panels?

ExpertPower advertises that it takes 6 hours to charge the battery with a 100W solar panel. That averages out to about 74W input.

How Can I Improve The Charging Efficiency When Using Solar Panels?

The easiest thing you can do is tilt the solar panel so it’s angled directly towards the sun.

Another thing you should do is to make sure there is no shade on the panel, not even a little bit.
